In his home city of Acapulco Mexican Reina Iglesias has broken the fastest recorded speed by a barefoot skier. He was towed by a low flying helicopter to smash the 135 miles per hour marker laid down by American water skier Scott Pellaton in 1989. Reina Iglesias was towed by a helicopter in Acapulco and reached 153mph on his second attempt. Public notary Manlio Favio Pano witnessed the event and corroborated that Reina Iglesias reached the record breaking speed recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records.
Barefoot water skiing originated in Winter Haven, Florida, USA in 1947 and the first person ever to attempt it was 17 year old A G Hancock. In April 1963 the first national Barefoot Skiing competition was held in Australia with 38 competitors.
