Canal Boat Holiday users thinking of visiting the Olympic games in London will be offered bookable visitors moorings. British Waterways are offering Canal Boat users towpath moorings on the southern section of the Grand Union Canal and in central and east London at Hackney Marshes on the River Lee. Moorings will also be offered in the London Docklands area.
This is a once in a life opportunity to witness the marvel of the Olympic Games from a Canal Boat Holiday and the Grand Union Canal is expected to be very busy. Canal Boat users that are happy to take pot luck on free moorings will still be able to moor the towpath and mooring restrictions and maximum stay rules will still apply.
An online booking system is scheduled to go live in April 2011 to coincide with the Olympic Games 2012 ticket applications. Mooring spaces will be allocated to Canal Boat Holiday users on a first come first served basis. British Waterways are offering an on line registration service and the system is about to go live and Canal Boat users can browse for available sites and book on line.
British Waterways are anticipating some exceptional navigation controls around the waterways of London during the Olympic Games of 2012. Any Canal Boating restriction or closures prior and during the Olympic Games will be posted on the British Waterways website.
