There was a distinct growth in the number of people taking breaks in England last year, according to the latest figures. VisitEngland revealed an 18 per cent rise on statistics from 2008, suggesting more people could be taking Canal Boat Holidays in the UK. James Berresford, chief executive of VisitEngland, believes the results are so positive for good reason, due to the wealth of culture offered by the country. 'England is a wonderful destination. We have some of the world's best countryside, coast line, cities, festivals and people - literally on our doorstep,' he commented. The economy also received a much-needed boost, as holidaymakers are reported to have spent £1 billion more than they did in 2008. A trip to the beach may be one option, as 150 of them all over the UK have received awards to recognise their high-quality facilities and environments. |
