People are more likely to sacrifice gift giving than they are their annual Canal Boat Holiday, a recent survey suggests. Conducted by Travelocity in conjunction with TakingTheKids. Com, the poll found that taking a break is as important as ever, as individuals make cutbacks elsewhere to ensure they can travel. The survey discovered that 67 per cent of people will reduce spending on entertainment and eating out to ensure they have the funds for a Canal Boat Holiday or other break. Meanwhile, 29 per cent have reduced the amount of gifts they give and 17 per cent now give less to charity than they did in the past. Holidaymakers are also keen to get their children involved in the preparations, as 56 per cent help their parents plan activities and events. Figures from the Office for National Statistics show that between November 2009 and January 2010, there were 7. 4 million visits made to the UK. |
