People who have previously embarked on Canal Boat Holidays in the Cotswolds are being asked to share their memories of towpaths in the area. British Waterways is asking for the tales as part of its new scheme to restore the Kennet & Avon Canal to its former glory. This stretch of canal is home to 19 listed structures, including wrought iron bridges, stone warehouses and pumping stations, which the organisation hopes will be preserved for years to come. 'We are also hoping to find out from people what their memories of the canal are, what they think is important and how the canal fits into the working heritage of Bath,' commented British Waterways' project manager Sarah Brice. She added that people have already brought forward 'quirky bits of information' about the area and hopes that this will continue. This follows the news that British Waterways is seeking to get more young volunteers interested in restoring canals in the UK. |
