A new management strategy has been put together to help make the Kennet And Avon Canal even more valuable for those on Canal Boat Holidays in Reading. British Waterways (BW) has joined forces with the Kennet And Avon Canal Trust (KACT) to form a committee that will address the needs of the canal and the people who use it. This marks a step closer to the establishment of a 'national trust' for the country's canal network, BW suggested, and will seek to represent all interested parties. Chair of the KACT David Rees said that more needs to be done to encourage volunteers to work on the canal. 'We can achieve this by offering new opportunities and demonstrating that it's worth getting involved because there is a real chance to make a difference,' he explained. In recent weeks, it was announced that water voles had been discovered along the Kennet And Avon Canal in Berkshire. |
