Pocklington Canal has been recognised in the 11th annual East Riding of Yorkshire Council's Chairman Awards. The ceremony will be held later this month on May 11th when the location will see whether it is commended for the £136,000 of restoration work at Cottingwith Lock. Judy Jones, heritage advisor for British Waterways, said: 'We're delighted to be nominated for this award and be recognised for the quality of work that went into this project. 'She added that as the third-largest owner of listed structures, it was great to see that canals are being noted as a part of the nation's heritage. Simon Salem, marketing director at British Waterways, recently said that the UK's canal network offers plenty of opportunities for people in search of a great day out. He said they offer diversity to tourists and a fantastic opportunity to go on holiday without having to travel hundreds of miles. |
