People on Canal Boat Holidays in the UK may be interested to note that the longest, highest and deepest canal tunnel in the country has opened its doors once again after being closed off for the winter season. Standedge Tunnel and Visitor Centre, which is situated next to the Huddersfield Narrow Canal, has also welcomed its first visitors for the new season with specialist guides telling the story behind the historic tunnel. James Dean, visitor services manager for Standedge Tunnel, said that last year the attraction received more than 100,000 visitors. 'There's a terrific family atmosphere at Standedge and our visitors are fascinated by the tunnel as it's such a very real piece of living history and one of the Seven Wonders of the Waterways, no less,' he added. In other news, people on Canal Boat Holidays in the UK recently learned that the Caen Hill flight of locks reopened to the public on March 27th. |
