People worried about the sustainability of their summer trips should consider going on Canal Boat Holidays, an expert has suggested. Erika Harms, executive director of the Tourism Sustainability Council and senior advisor of the Tourism at the United Nations Foundation, claimed that this is becoming a more pressing issue for many people. Highlighting the possible ecological damage caused by visitors to World Heritage sites such as the Pontycysyllte Aqueduct, she said organisations have been doing their best to minimise the harm caused by these sites. She emphasised the work being done at showing what those on Canal Boat Holidays can do to minimise this. Ms Harms said: 'Travellers can actually identify what are the requirements to be sustainable and that they have a clear vision … [of] how they can make a difference. 'When the Pontcysyllte Canal was frozen over earlier this month, British Waterways highlighted it as one of the most picturesque waterways in the UK. |
