People planning Canal Boat Holidays in the UK may be interested to learn that plans to create a waterside urban village in Chesterfield have taken a significant step forward. Outline planning permission has been given to the £300 million Chesterfield Waterside project, which will see offices, apartments, a hotel and leisure attractions being built on the edge of the town centre. Additionally, the development will make use of the River Rother and Chesterfield Canal, restoring the canal network to create a fully-navigable route. 'The Waterside scheme will play a key part in the area's modern awakening,' commented Peter Swallow, chairman of the Waterside Partnership. 'Now we can turn the thriving and exciting new place which is the vision of the masterplan into a reality. 'Urbo, the regeneration company that will be leading the project, works in partnership with local authorities, landowners and other developers to create new places in towns and cities. |
