A leading group of companies related to the UK's canals has visited a number of destinations popular with those on Canal Boat Holidays in Wales. The Waterway Advisory Group, which includes individuals from numerous backgrounds, made sure they took in the Pontcysyllte Aquaduct on their trip following its achievement of World Heritage Site status. In addition, they visited the Redwith section of Montgomery Canal and the Llangollen Mooring Basin. John Bridgeman, chairman of the group, highlights the important boost to the local economy that those taking Canal Boat Holidays in Wales provide. He states: 'Add to this a World Heritage Site, three Scheduled Ancient Monuments and 206 Listed Buildings, and the contribution our waterways make to the culture and economy of Wales is clear. 'Earlier this month, it was announced that Pontcysyllte Aquaduct is to be drained in order for maintenance work to be performed. This will be funded out of a total of £60 million being made available for the maintenance of the UK's waterways. |
