Two of the most famous characters from Harry Potter are featured in a new limited edition of Royal Mail stamps. The range of magical characters include the likes of Professor Dumbledore and his arch enemy Lord Voldemort from the Harry Potter stories written by JK Rowling. Also featuring are Merlin and Morgan le Fay from the tales of King Arthur and the C S Lewis characters Aslan and the White Witch from The Chronicles of Narnia. Terry Pratchett much loved characters of Rincewind and Nanny Ogg from the Discworld series also feature. Sir Terry said I am astonished and delighted that characters from my books have been chosen to appear on a set of Royal Mail stamps celebrating myths and legends.
Scenes from the films and TV series have been shot on location in the UK and many are easily reached on a Canal Boat Holiday. The magnificent cathedral in Gloucester served as Hogwarts and the cloisters there provided the setting for several scenes in the film. London plays a big part in the Harry Potter films when the Dursleys go to the Zoo it is filmed at London Zoo in Regents Park. Platform nine and three quarters is where Harry catches the steam train to Hogwarts this was filmed on Platform 4 at Kings Cross Station. Visit Wroxeter in Shropshire and take the King Arthur Trail. Legend has it that King Arthur was born, lived and died in Shropshire and that he married a local girl Guinevere or Ganhumara who came from Oswestry. |
