The Royal Horticultural Society, the RHS, is holding its annual Flower Show at Chelsea this week. This is probably the event of the year for gardeners, designers, nurseries and horticulture expects. Diarmuid Gavins flying garden and the B&Q towering allotment both won gold medals this year at the prestigious flower show. The former Gardeners World presenter designed the garden that everyone is talking about, the centrepiece is a bright pink pod suspended 82 feet off the ground by a crane and surrounded by cartoon esque green hedge. The B and Q exhibit by Laurie Chetwood and Patrick Collins is a 30 foot tall towering allotment and is the highest garden ever built at Chelsea.
If you love gardening then there are plenty of parks and gardens to visit during a Canal Boat Holiday. From Alvechurch cruise to Stratford upon Avon and moor up at the Bancroft Gardens these lovely gardens are in front of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. In the gardens stands a statue of William Shakespeare with four characters from his plays representing Philosophy, Tragedy, Comedy and History. From our Canal Boat Holiday base at Union Wharf cruise to Leicester and moor up close to the Abbey Park the park is divided in two by the River Soar. Anderton Nature Park can be reached from our Canal Boat Holiday centre at Anderton. Follow the trail posts with information about the unusual plants thrive in the salt, lime and ash clinker conditions. |
