The Shropshire Star describes the establishment as a well-kept secret, highlighting key dishes including its locally-sourced game and fresh fish as worthy of special mentions. Phil Austin, one of the Twitter users voting in The 2009 Shropshire Star Twitter Awards, claims that it has the best food, chef and atmosphere in the whole of the county. Other key pubs people voted for include The Golden Cross, Casa Ruiz, The Walls and the Parkway, with Restaurant Severn, The Crown and Mad Jacks also rating highly. Number Eight Books was held to be the best shop, while Fareground was held to be the county's best artisan.
