Tourists taking regular Canal Boat Holidays in England are being encouraged to offer ideas for how to enhance Rochdale Canal. A new project is being undertaken to add signposts and interpretive information along the canal route to help visitors to appreciate its history and cultural significance, reports the Hebden Bridge Times. James Cokeham, project manager at one of the project partners Imagemakers, told the newspaper: 'We have some really interesting initial ideas for telling the Rochdale Canal's stories and would love to know what local people think of them. 'We believe the canal has so much potential and with your help we will be able to unlock it. ' Rochdale Canal celebrated its 200th birthday in 2004, with a number of exciting events including boat rallies, community carnivals, festivals and exhibitions. The canal was recently restored and reopened, which has proved a success for boosting the local economy, which has benefitted from heightened tourists levels over the last few years. |
