Next year's British Waterways (BW) canal spring clean will take place in the first two weeks of March. Organisations and volunteers will join BW representatives from March 1st to 14th to clear up the UK's waterways and help make Canal Boat Holidays in England even more pleasurable. Best-selling author and president of the Campaign to Protect Rural England Bill Bryson commented: 'Britain's waterways are of vital importance, providing everyone with the opportunity to experience their cities, towns and countryside from a unique and tranquil perspective. ' BW is calling for an improvement on last year's effort, which saw the most successful Towpath Tidy event ever. Over 1,700 volunteers joined 635 members of BW staff to clear 149 tonnes of litter, paint bridges, locks, fences and cut back vegetation. Last week, The Times stated that Canal Boat Holidays are a great way to see in the New Year. |
