Cheshire canal boat holidays04-06-2010 : Cheshire canal boat holidays: Volunteers seek to make a difference |
A group of volunteers have got together to make a difference for those on canal boat holidays in cheshire. Known as the waterways action squad, the team will run a programme of events throughout the region to raise awareness about the role of canals.
This will be achieved by running projects such as wildlife habitat creation and workshops involving local youngsters and musicians. Lucie unsworth, waterways action squad project manager, said: 'our first aim has been to introduce young people to a hands-on environment that will equip them with valuable work and social skill sets.
'she added that the second objective is to bring about real improvements for communities and visitors to enjoy in years to come. Last month, british waterways emphasised that canals are great places for all the family to enjoy some quality time together without having to splash out lots of money.
