A Sumatran tiger cub has recently made its first appearance at Chester Zoo. The mother tiger Kirana gave birth to the cub three days ago but it will be up to four weeks before keepers will know if its is male or female and it can be named. Tim Rowlands, the zoo curator of mammals said Kirana is a first time mum and is learning as she goes but so far she has done a brilliant job. She was out and about within 24 hours taking the very best of care of her new charge. Sumatran tigers are native to the Indonesian islands of Sumatra and are critically endangered in the wild.
