Cheshire canal boat holidays21-01-2010 : Visitors on canal boat holidays in Cheshire 'can see a Kirk's Dik Dik' |
A baby antelope has been born in chester zoo and is being hand-reared by keepers at the destination, those on canal boat holidays in cheshire may be interested to discover. It has yet to be given a name and is a kirk's dik dik, a type of animal native to kenya, tanzania and namibia, the bbc has reported.
Helene massey, the senior keeper, is currently looking after the creature and is feeding it with a bottle until it is old enough to consume its usual diet of buds, shoots and fruit. She told the bbc: 'kirk's dik dik is one of the smaller of the antelope species but what they lack in stature, they make up for in appeal.
'earlier this month, the zoo announced the fledging of a rare wrinkled hornbill, those on canal boat holidays in cheshire may be interested to discover. It left its nest inside a mud-sealed log after 100 days and makes chester zoo one of only two sites in the uk which breeds this variety of bird.
