The Government plans to sell large areas of England's woodland look set to be scrapped in view of a petition which attracted more than half a million signatures. The public were worried that if the forests were sold it would make it harder to access them and it may be damaging for the wildlife living there. The Prime Minister David Cameron says he has listened to the protests and will now rethinking the plans.
The National Forest can be found in the very heart of England and covers an area of 200 square miles across parts of Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Staffordshire. These counties were once right in the heart of the canal system during the industrial revolution. In their heyday the canals would have been busy with Narrowboats carrying cargo from towns such as Derby, Burton-on-Trent and Leicester.
The canals are now busy with Narrowboats hired out by the leisure industry and a Canal Boat Holiday can be enjoyed from our bases in Leicestershire and Staffordshire.
