Northamptonshire canal boat holidays03-12-2009 : Canal boat hire: Tree planting 'to form part of record attempt' |
A number of volunteers are going to try and break the record for tree planting alongside four sections of the grantham canal, which could interest those looking at canal boat hire breaks. British waterways and the grantham canal society will be making the attempt on december 4th along with 250,000 tree o'clock groups in the country who will be planting at the same time, waterscape reports.
These are hoped to improve the biodiversity of the local area and provide an environment for wildlife such as birds and frogs. Sean mcginley, waterways manager for the east midlands, claims that the initiative is a great way to encourage diversity in the region.
He says: 'we are happy to team up with the grantham canal society to get involved in an enjoyable morning as well as taking part in an ambitious world record attempt. 'in 2005, funding was secured by british waterways that it hopes will enable it to open the canal for those using canal boat hire by 2015.
