Scotland canal boat holidays19-01-2010 : Wind farms 'must not disrupt scenery on canal boat holidays' |
It is crucial that wind farms do not disrupt the natural beauty alongside the uk's waterways, those on canal boat holidays have been told. John clare, policy media officer for the royal society for the protection of birds (rspb), has emphasised the importance of maintaining natural wildlife and avoiding disruption to these habitats.
He said that while global warming is a serious problem, it is not worth tackling at the expense of the beauty and diversity of the local area. 'the caveat to that is wind farms and whether or not birds and their habitats are damaged.
where that happens we will oppose wind farms, quite vociferously,' he stated. Mr clare called for more control to be exercised over the planning process in order to prevent important habitats such as canal-side environments from being blighted.
His comments followed scottish government approval of a major wind development in a scenic area in south lewis, which could concern those on canal boat holidays in scotland. |
