07-07-2010 : Canal boat holidays 'a great way to explore Oxford'

Taking a canal boat holiday in oxford is a great way to make the most of the city, it has been suggested.  According to travelbite, there is no better way to see the historical location than from the thames, as visitors can see the 'breathtaking university buildings' in all their glory.

Among the other highlights of oxford are the cobbled alleyways, rooftop restaurants and general historical intrigue, the site suggested, which are sure to delight those on canal boat holidays.  One of the must-see attractions in the city is its botanical gardens, which boast more than 7,000 types of plant and form a place for research for university students.

Figures from british waterways show 91 per cent of people consider the country's canals to be important part of its heritage.  Meanwhile, record number of people were found to have used canal towpaths over the course of the past year.
