UK Canal boat holidays13-04-2010 : Canal boat holidays in the UK: 200-mile journey for charity |
People planning canal boat holidays in the uk this year may be inspired by the story of a group of parishioners in newbald, who are undertaking a 200-mile journey this month to raise money for their local church. Hamish and diana stuart plan to set off in a 63-year-old riverboat on april 19th and will visit seven churches and cathedrals, including beverley minster, peterborough cathedral and king's college, cambridge before returning home at the end of may, the hull daily mail reports.
Cash raised from their epic canal boat trip will go towards the £30,000 appeal fund of newbald church, which has been maintained by local people for around 1,000 years. 'everyone in the village has been asked to contribute a small amount and on top of that there will be lots of other people doing things to raise money,' mr stewart told the newspaper.
It follows news in the gazette and herald that redland primary school has raised £600 for the restoration of a chippenham waterway, which may benefit those on canal boat holidays in wiltshire. |
