UK Canal boat holidays19-02-2010 : More overseas visitors 'taking canal boat holidays' |
The number of brits taking canal boat holidays in the uk has risen, with 15 per cent fewer uk citizens taking vacations abroad. Figures published by international passenger recorded that the amount spent by international visitors to the country's waterways rose by one per cent in 2009, even though the number of travellers actually fell during this period.
Patricia yates, director of strategy and communications at visitbritain, claimed that these are encouraging signs. She said: 'looking forward to 2010, we are predicting a relatively small growth in numbers of inbound tourists of one per cent but value increasing by four per cent as the pound remains relatively weak.
'ms yates added that the us has contributed a large percentage of these visitors. Earlier this month, travel expert john ellis claimed that canal boat holidays are a good option for those struggling with money issues as they are often cheaper than overseas trips.
