UK Canal boat holidays11-08-2010 : UK canal boat holidays grow in popularity |
An increasing number of people are enjoying canal boat holidays in the uk, british waterways has claimed. The number of adults visiting the country's inland waterways last year topped 13 million, the group revealed, with canal restorations over recent months expected to boost this figure.
'canals are part of our industrial heritage, and are home to the uk's third largest collection of listed structures in the form of locks, tunnels, bridges and buildings,' said simon salem, marketing director at british waterways. He added that canal boat holidays are a great way of exploring the country's landscape and are a holiday choice that suits all the family.
There are so many activities to get involved in, such as canoeing, walking or even wildlife spotting, the organisation revealed. Volunteers were recently invited to droitwich barge canal to help improve wildlife by clearing up the area to improve plant growth.
