UK Canal boat holidays09-08-2010 : Workboats in search of new homes |
A number of redundant workboats are being auctioned off in the hope someone will give them a new lease of life. The vessels are being sold by british waterways through an online auction and include a selection of historic craft and boat engines.
Canal boat holiday lovers have until september 29th to submit their bids to goindustry dovebid, which has been appointed to take control of the sale. Stephen hames, senior engineer at british waterways and responsible for the boat disposal, said: 'we've assessed our fleet and are auctioning off craft that are surplus to requirements.
'the boats add colour and character to our waterways and we hope to find new owners who will keep them afloat for years to come. 'a recent survey from the organisation found there is great support for canal boat holidays among the british public, with the majority saying they see canals as an important part of the country's heritage.
