Wales canal boat holidays15-06-2010 : Canal boat holidays in Wales: Expert sheds light on water voles |
People on canal boat holidays may have had the chance to see a presentation given on one of the most valuable residents of the country's waterways. Environment agency vole expert rob strachan shed light on the creatures as part of a series of presentations on the rich divergence of wildlife.
The events focus on the 11-mile corridor between chirk and llantysilio, which is a designated world heritage site. Community project officer for the pontcysyllte & llangollen canal project piers warburton said that more needs to be done to make the country's waterways of interest to people.
'whether we are by the canal creating new habitats for our wildlife or learning about the unique heritage of the site, the project is providing an interactive platform for genuine community engagement,' he commented. It was recently announced that a major summer conference would be taking place in wales to assess the impact of canals on local communities.
