The Olympic flame is due to arrive in the UK this evening ready for the start of the London 2012 torch relay.

Footballer David Beckham, Princess Anne and Lord Coe, chairman of Games organisers Locog are flying from Athens with the flame.

Flight BA2012, a gold colour plane named Firefly, lands later tonight at RNAS Culdrose in Cornwall.

The torch will be in the UK for 70 days and will travel 8,000 miles and will be carried by 8,000 torch bearers in relay.

It will culminate with the lighting of the Olympic cauldron in the Olympic Stadium on the opening day.

The relay will take in landmarks around Britain with the flame travelling by Canal Boat, cable car, tram, steam train, hot air balloon and even motorcycle sidecar on the Isle of Man TT course.

If you are on a Canal Boat Holiday during the Olympic Torch relay you may be lucky enough to witness the event as it is visiting many canal side attractions and locations.

If you are cruising the Kennet And Avon Canal on 22nd May the torch will be passing through Bradford on Avon and Trowbridge, which is very close to our Canal Boat base at Hilperton.

The restored Shropshire Union Fly boat Saturn will carry the runner bearing the Olympic Torch over the famous Pontcysyllte Aqueduct on the Llangollen Canal on 30th May.

If you are close to the Foxton Locks on the Grand Union Canal on your Canal Boat Holiday on 2nd July you will be able to see the torch relay from your Canal Boat.

The Olympic torch will be carried on a Canal Boat and tram as it passes through the Black Country to Wolverhampton and past the Black Country Living Museum in Dudley.

If you have booked a Canal Boat Holiday from Alvechurch from 30th June to 1st July and are cruising the Black Country Ring the torch may well pass your Canal Boat.
