18-06-2013 : VISIT THE LYMM HISTORIC TRANSPORT DAY

Canal Boat Holiday guests exploring Cheshire this week should moor up and visit the Lymm Historic Transport day.

Supported by their Patron and keen Canal Boater Matthew Corbett, and his friend Sooty, the festival promises to be full of activities for the whole family.

Over 250 Cars and 50 motor-bikes will be present not to mention historic working Canal Boats, Steam engine, tractors and model railways.

Take a ride on miniature railway, watch the parade of bicycles through the decades starting with Penny farthings and take a tour of Lymm on the vintage bus.

There will be Canal Boat trips on the narrow boat Castlefield and a chance to step aboard a selection of historic working boats.

See The BIG Picture , a 15 ft by 12ft display painted in 50 panels by 50 artists reproducing a famous historical painting of Bridgewater Canal.

The fun starts on Thursday 20th June when the Lymm Festival traditionally opens with the enormously popular Foodfest.

Friday 21st is the heritage  and education days with a change to visit the working boats and learn about their canal heritage.

Shroppie Flyboat Saturn and The National Waterways Museum are supporting the day.

Sunday 23rd is the actual Historic Transport Day when you can see vintage and classic cars and bikes and the day culminates in the sail past of working boats at the end of the afternoon.

Canal Boat Holiday guest wishing to visit Lymm and the Historic Transprt Day should book the narrow boat from Anderton Marina.

The lovely trip to Lymm can be achieved in a short break cruising the Trent And Mersey Canal and Bridgewater Canal.

There are stunning views of the distant Pennines to the north, before the canal makes a very pleasant passage through the heart of Lymm, where the streets come right down to the waters edge.
