05-02-2013 : A CANAL BOAT HOLIDAY TO LEICESTER

A car park in Leicester has become the unlikely setting for world attention after a set of bones were recently discovered buried there.

This city centre location has had the eyes and ears of the media on it since archaeologists from the University of Leicester confirmed the skeleton, found last year, was that of Ricard III.

Researchers have now shown what the 15th century monarch would have looked like as they have reconstructed his face based on the skull.

The reconstructed face has a slightly arched nose and prominent chin, similar to features shown in portraits of Richard III painted after his death.

Richard was killed in the Battle of Bosworth in 1485, at the age of 32 and after just two years on the throne, having been challenged by the forces of Henry Tudor, the future Henry VII.

The Richard III society officially unveiled the reconstruction at the Society of Antiquaries in London.

You actually pass by the battlefields of Bosworth on a Canal Boat Holiday from Union Wharf in Leicestershire.

Enjoy an easy cruise as the Grand Union Canal meanders through unspoilt surroundings passing through the Husband Bosworth Tunnel on route.

The Tunnel is 1166 yards long and was opened in 1813.

Stop and moor for a while, stroll into Husband Bosworth for a pub, newsagents and general store.

Visit the Bosworth visitor centre where the latest, temporary, exhibition Richard III The Making of the Myth, opens to the public on 8th February.

Discover more about where Richard fought for his life and lost his crown and view real objects from the Battle of 1485, including cannon balls and the Ricardian Boar Badge.
