Leicestershire canal boat holidays

If you happen to be cruising the Ashby Canal this weekend on your Canal Boat Holiday pop along and join in the fun at the Moira Canal Festival.

Attractions will include a World War Two re enactment and a mountain bike stunt troupe who will attempt to jump the canal.

There will be something for everyone from a swing band, Morris dancing, steam train rides, stalls, demonstrations and Canal Boats.

The festival aims to raise awareness and funding for the restoration of the Ashby Canal and the 14 million pound project to reconnect the isolated section between Donisthorpe and Moira.

The current terminus at Snarestone began last year and there is still about 5 miles, 2 aqueducts and new locks to go before completion.

Take a tour around The Moira Furnace Museum which will be open and the Joseph Wilkes trip boat will be running.

The Ashby Canal is a perfect location for your first time Canal Boat Holiday if looking for a truly relaxing break exploring the rural landscape of Leicestershire.

Steeped in history, this beautiful, tranquil canal passes by the historic scene of the Battle of Bosworth and meanders through a very level environment and therefore is lock free.
