27-02-2013 : A CANAL BOAT HOLIDAY DAY OUT AT BIDDULPH GRANGE

Canal Boat Holiday guests visiting Biddulph Grange this season can enter their photography competition.

The photos can be taken of anything, during all seasons, as long as it is in the garden and it is a posed picture.

There are two categories to enter, under 16's and over 16's and a winner will be selected from both categories and will receive a prize.

According to The National Trust the gardens at Biddulph Grange in Staffordshire are one of seven jewels in their crown.

These amazing Victorian garden were created by James Bateman for his collection of plants from around the world.

A visit takes you on a world wide journey from Italy to the pyramids of Egypt to a Victorian vision of China to the Himalayas.

Biddulph Grange close to the Macclesfield Canal can be visited on a Discount Boat Hire Holiday booked from Anderton Marina.

On you journey on the Trent And Mersey Canal navigate the locks at the Wheelock Flight where 26 narrow locks are spread over 7 miles lifting the canal from the Cheshire plain to the north portal of Harecastle Tunnel.

The Harecastle Tunnel is almost 3000 yard long and there are actually two tunnels sitting side by side although only one is navigable today.

Beware as you and your crew pass through on your Canal Boat as the tunnel is said to be haunted by the ghost of Kit Crewbuckett whose headless corpse was dumped in the canal.

Meander your way along the Macclesfield Canal which at 518 feet above sea level is one of the highest canal levels on the canal system.

Originally the home of the silk industry the ancient town of Macclesfield is full of character with old mills and sloping streets.
