According to the National Trust the award winning gardens at Chirk Castle have some of the best snowdrops on display in the country.

The gardens also contain clipped yews, herbaceous borders, shrub and rock gardens, as well as a terrace with stunning views over the Cheshire and Salop plains.

Completed in 1310, Chirk is the last Welsh castle from the reign of Edward I that is still lived in today.

Features from its 700 years include the medieval tower and dungeon, 17th-century Long Gallery, grand 18th-century state apartments, servants hall and historic laundry.

Meet the medieval guards and discover life 700 years ago and try on armour and join in guard duty.

Visit Chirk Castle on a Canal Boat Holiday from Blackwater Meadow on the Llangollen Canal.

On your Canal Boat Holiday on the Llangollen Canal navigate your way through the Chirk Tunnel.

Construction began on the tunnel in 1794 and it is significant in being one of the first canal tunnels in Britain to incorporate a towpath.

The tunnel was designed for the Ellesmere Canal Company by the engineers William Jessop and Thomas Telford.

Marvel at the mighty Chirk Aqueduct which was completed in 1801 and built by the architects and builders Thomas Telford and William Jessop.

It has ten huge arches spanning the River Ceiriog.

At a height of 70 feet the setting is most impressive as it is flanked by the higher Chirk railway viaduct.
