15-05-2013 : A NIGHT IN A MUSEUM ON A CANAL BOAT HOLIDAY

This weekend hundreds of museums across the UK will stay open into the evening and after dark.

This annual event will be staged in museums and galleries and will include more than 300 events.

The UK event ties in with the European event of the same name La Nuit des Musees and is a brilliant opportunity to enjoy a great night out and experience the heritage and culture Britain has to offer.

If you are on your Canal Boat Holiday in Bristol this weekend join in with the night in a museum experience and visit Brunels SS Great Britain.

Descend below the glass sea and step back in history at the Dockyard Museum.

If you are exploring the Gloucester And Sharpness Canal take a tour of Gloucester Waterways Museum by torchlight and encounter waterways characters such as canal women, lock keepers and navvies, among the exhibits.

Costumed actors will bring the exhibits to life as they act out scenes relating to life on the waterways.

If you are exploring Coventry on your Canal Boat Holiday then the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum will come to life in a late night celebration.

The museums in Bath on the Kennet And Avon Canal will transport you to torch lit Roman pavements and give you a chance to see the city in tatters after the wake of Second World War bombing.

If you are cruising the Llangollen Canal then moor up your Canal Boat at Chirk and visit Chirk Castle.

Enjoy a unique tour of the state rooms of the National Trust property with the House Manager and Steward.

Or, if your Canal Boat Holiday is starting at Union Wharf cruise to Leicester and take part in an after dark tour of the Jewry Wall .
