13-10-2011 : BRITISH WATERWAYS IS LOOKING FOR THE NEW, CANINE, FACE FOR NEW CAMPAIGN

British Waterways is searching to find a canal loving canine to front up a marketing campaign for their new national charity being set up next year.

Your four legged friend could be in with a chance to be the new canine face of the Canal and River Trust which takes over the responsibility of 2,000 miles of waterways in England and Wales next April.

A dedicated Flickr page has been set up and British Waterways are asking dog lovers up and down the country to post pictures of their pooches by the canal.

By entering you could be in with a chance of seeing your dog fronting a national campaign during 2012.

An Inland Waterways Visits Survey carried out in 2010 revealed that dog walkers are some of the most frequent visitors to the canals.

Tony Hales, who will chair the Canal and River Trust, said Our research has shown us that dog walkers are some of the most regular visitors to the waterways so this is a fun and interactive way of getting them involved with the new charity.

It would be fantastic if as many people as possible posted pictures of their pooches by the water online.

The towpaths are ideal dog walking stretches because they are a mix of busy and quieter spots and sights and smells which are perfect for dogs to explore.

There are hundreds of miles of freely accessible canal and river towpaths providing fantastic routes for dog walkers giving people and their dogs an excellent way to enjoy their local environment whilst getting some exercise at the same time.

In January 2012, a panel of judges will pick the best photos from your favourites and the winning owners and their dogs will receive a doggy bag of goodies.

In addition the overall winner will be the new, doggie, face of the Canal and River Trust.
