25-04-2013 : CANAL AND RIVER TRUST GREAT NATURE WATCH

The Canal and River Trust have developed a brand new, free mobile phone app which allows Canal Boat Holiday guests and nature lovers to tell them about the wildlife you see on and around the canal.

Whether you spot a trout, a toad or a tern, as long as it is wild, The Canal and River Trust want to hear about it.

The handy app allows you to record what you have seen from wherever you are on a canal or river.

Not only that it has a handy Species ID which has images and description of 60 different types of wildlife you can spot on the water.

Just search for eNatureWatch in iTunes or Google Play to download the app and get nature spotting.

The recordings will be collected and used by the Trust’s environment team to keep an eye on what wildlife is living where.

Your very own Nature watch will reveal itself on your Canal Boat Holiday when every day the canal and surrounding areas spring into life.

All of us are familiar with the ducks and swans but imagine the excitement of spotting a heron or spot a flash of blue as a kingfisher dart by.

The canals are easily accessible and free to explore and they are the ideal destination for nature lovers.

As you gentle cruise along the canals on your Canal Boat Holiday you will get back to nature and have a chance to see the wildlife close up.

The towpath is home to a huge variety of birds and animals and many rare species thrive in the safe haven that the canal bank provides.

Don't forget to inform the Canal and River Trust of what you have seen.
