UK Canal boat holidays

Newly restored Canal Boat Mendip spent much of its working life on the canals connecting Knighton to Bournville.

The Canal Boat carried chocolate ingredients between Cadbury factories has recently made the journey again after being restored at the National Waterways Museum Heritage Boatyard in Cheshire.

The 70 foot Canal Boat was built around 1948 and carried chocolate crumb, which is cocoa, sugar and milk in dried form, to Birmingham until 1961.

Mendip was skippered by the late Charlie Atkins and they both became a regular sight on the Midlands canals where he was given the nickname Chocolate Charlie.

Explore the Canals around Bournville and cruise the route that Mendip would have taken on a Canal Boat Holiday booked from Alvechurch Marina.

Moor up at Cadburys in Bournville, take a tour of the world famous chocolate factory and watch your favourite chocolate bar being made.
