20-04-2013 : CELEBRATE ST GEORGES DAY ON A CANAL BOAT HOLIDAY

If you are cruising the Huddersfield Narrow Canal next Tuesday, 23rd April, on your Canal Boat Holiday join in the St Georges Day celebrations at the Standegde Tunnel.

The Horse Boating Society will be legging a Canal Boat through Standedge Tunnel, pursued by a fierce dragon.

The boat will emerge in the afternoon when St George himself will fight the pursuing dragon and try to save the villagers of Marsden.

It promisies to be a fun filled day for the whole family so pop along and have a go at the St Georges Day activities at the Standedge Tunnel Visitor Centre.

The visitor centre offers an insight on what life would have been like for the people who worked and lived on the canals.

The Standedge Tunnel is 17,000 feet long, 638 feet below ground and 645 feet above sea level and this makes it the highest, deepest and longest tunnel on the UK canal system.
