The government will spend 110million pounds improving the quality of Englands waterways, the Environment Secretary Caroline Spelman has announced.

She said the money, which would be channelled through the Environment Agency, Natural England and various other charities, would help reduce pollution, tackle invasive weeds and remove redundant dams, weirs and landings.

The health of our rivers has come along in leaps and bounds but we still see nasty invasive weeds and lifeless waters blight blue spaces in cities and across our countryside.

f you want to explore the waterways of Britain a Canal Boat Holiday is a perfect choice for you.

The canals are easily accessible and free to explore and they are the ideal destination for nature lovers.

As you gentle cruise along the canals on your Canal Boat Holiday you will get back to nature and have a chance to see the wildlife close up.

Your very own Nature watch' will reveal itself on your Canal Boat Holiday when every day the canal and surrounding areas spring into life.

All of us are familiar with the ducks and swans but imagine the excitement of spotting a heron, otter or water vole.

On your Canal Boat Holiday you may be in a privileged position to spot buzzards swooping over the canal or a flash of blue as a kingfisher darts into the reeds.
