11-08-2012 : FISHERMAN CATCHES SHARK OFF CORNISH COAST

Stunned fisherman Malcolm Roberts was in a boat with a group of pals off the coast of Cornwall when he felt a 13 foot Thresher shark tugging on his line.

It took Malcolm an hour and a half to haul in the 350lb beast a and it took the five strong crew to haul into the boat.

Construction worker Mr Roberts said Everyone would love to say they caught a shark that size and I have been lucky enough to do it.

The Shark Angling Club of Great Britain said the huge shark was one of the biggest seen around Cornwall for years.

You will not encounter any sharks on your Canal Boat Holiday but you will be able to fish for a variety of other species.

The canals are easily accessible and free to explore and they are the ideal destination for fishermen.

What better way to spend the day than stepping off your Canal Boat straight onto the canal bank to fish.

You will not need to carry your equipment along the tow path or travel any great distance just moor up and away you go.

You will need a rod licence and these can be purchased from any local Post Office or from the environment agency.

Look out for the signs as sometimes fishing is prohibited as the rights are owner by local fishing clubs.

The close season on British rivers is between 15th March and 15th June but you can fish on canals at any time.
