24-07-2012 : NATIONAL FISHING MONTH

This years National Fishing Month runs to the 27th August and is a scheme that encourages people to have a go at fishing.

Fisheries Minister, Richard Benyon said National Fishing Month is a fantastic opportunity to introduce thousands of new people to the benefits of angling.

Martin Salter, Angling Trust Campaign Manager added The Angling Trust is proud to be a partner and strong supporter of National Fishing Month which does so much to inspire people to take up fishing.

We were delighted to be able to help organise the launch with the Minister and show him just what a great project this is.

There are scores of fishing activities taking place across the whole country during National Fishing Month so if you have ever thought about taking up the sport look out for an event near you.

Whether you are an absolute beginner or looking for that catch of a lifetime there is no better opportunity than to spend some time fishing on a Canal Boat Holiday.

Relax and cast your line from the canal or river bank in perfect peaceful surroundings all from the comfort of your Canal Boat.

You will need a licence which can be obtained from any main Post Office or from the environment agency.

You may also need a day ticket to fish in the canals and but your home marina will be able to advise you of this.

Obey the signs as some fishing rights may be held by local fishing clubs and fishing may be prohibited on some stretches of the waterways.

Fishing is prohibited on British rivers between 15th March and 15th June, the close season, but you can fish on rivers outside these dates and on canals at any time .
