National Science and Engineering Week is being held across the UK with several cities University hosting exhibits and open days.

This event, held each March, shines the spotlight on how science, technology, engineering and maths relate to our everyday lives and helps to inspire the next generation of scientists.

The canal systems themselves are marvellous feats of engineering but there are seven outstanding wonders of the waterways you could experience whilst on a Canal Boat Holiday.

  The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct was built by Thomas Telfor and William Jessop and can be reached on your Canal Boat Holiday from Blackwater Meadow on the Llangollen Canal.

 Built by Edwin Clark in 1873 the Anderton Boat LIft transports Canal Boats from the River Weaver to the Trent And Mersey Canal.

 At over 3 miles long the Standedge Tunnel on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal is the longest tunnel on the canal system.

Designed by John Rennie the Caen Hill Locks is a flight of 16 locks close to Canal Boat Holiday centre in Hilperton.

The Bingley five rise locks raises or lowers Canal Boats on the Leeds And Liverpool Canal they were completed in 1774 and were designed John Longbotham.

Barton Swing Aqueduct was opened in 1893 and allowed for passage along the Manchester Ship Canal this aqueduct was designed by Sir Edward Leader Williams.

Built on the Leeds And Liverpool Canal between 1796 and 1801 the Burnley Embankment was constructed to save a long detour and was designed by Robert Whitworth.
