08-06-2011 : NEW OLYMPIC TORCH

The new design of the Olympic torch for the London 2012 Games has been revealed.

The 80cm torch will be used to light a special cauldron which traditionally signals the start of the Games.

It looks like gold but it is made of an aluminium mix so it will be light for the runners to carry.

The 2012 Olympic Flame has 8,000 holes which represents each of the 8,00 torch bearers.

It is triangular shaped and this signifies the three times that London has staged the Games in 1908, 1948 and 2012.

Canal Boat Holiday users thinking of visiting the Olympic games in London will be offered bookable visitors moorings.

Mooring spaces will be allocated to Canal Boat users on a first come first served basis.

This is a once in a life opportunity to witness the marvel of the 2012 Olympic Games from a Canal Boat Holiday.

There will be tow path moorings on the southern section of the Grand Union Canal and in central and east London at Hackney Marshes on the River Lee.

Canal Boat Holiday users that are happy to take pot luck on free moorings will still be able to moor the tow path and mooring restrictions and maximum stay rules will still apply.
