07-04-2011 : RARE GIANT TURTLE TREATED BY VETS

A sick giant turtle that is considered sacred by many people in Vietnam has been captured so vets can treat it.

The giant soft shell turtle is very rare and is one of only four known living members of the species.

The turtle is thought to be more than 100 years old and is seen as a symbol of the countrys independence.

The turtle has developed open sores on its neck and legs and no one is sure how it got its wounds.

Some people think it may be from rubbish in the lake or it could be from fishing hooks or even other smaller turtles.

Thousands of people gathered to watch the huge reptile get pulled out of the lake where it lives in Hanoi.

Take the time to actually stand still and to look and listen will be amazed what you see and hear on a Canal Boat Holiday .

A towpath is home to a huge variety of birds and animals and many rare species thrive in the safe haven that the canal bank provides.

Marvel at the tranquillity as the swans glide pass your Barge hoping for a tasty treat.

A Canal Boat Holiday is an excellent way of getting close to nature so why not buy a wildlife or bird book and see how many species you can spot.

The kids will love a note book so that they can keep a record of what they have seen.

Take advantage of your time together on a Canal Boat Holiday and set off as a family and spend the whole day nature spotting.
