10-07-2013 : SPEND A DAY AT THE BEACH ON A CANAL BOAT HOLIDAY

The ocean in the canal well jellyfish, mussels and seaweed can be found living in the Leeds And Liverpool Canal.

An odd place for a beach and not so much sand as dirt but there really is one located right under The Gravelly Hill Interchange which is better known as Spaghetti Junction.

You may think you are seeing things when you spot a Lighthouse on your Canal Boat Holiday but it is true, it may be 30 miles from the sea but a lighthouse stands on the banks of the Bridgewater Canal.

Canal Boat Holiday guests may think they are seeing a mirage as a floating ice cream parlour drifts past.

Businessman Steve Blakeman built the unique vessel from a tugboat, from Hebden Bridge, and an ice cream van, from Robin Hood's Bay.

The boat is equipped with a serving hatch on both sides to allow tourists on either bank of the river and on the water to enjoy a lovely ice cream.

It may seem hard to believe but Canal Boat Holiday guests feeling the heat on the Oxford Canal should head for the city and spend a while on the beach! Yes a beach in the centre of Oxford, twenty three tonnes of sand have transformed an area of the city's Castle Quarter into a beach complete deck chairs and palm trees.

The beach took three days to build and will host a series of events over the summer including beach volleyball tournament and cinema screenings.
