19-04-2012 : UNBREAKABLE CYCLING RECORD

In 1939, Tommy Godwin rode 75,065 miles in a single year to set an endurance riding record that some believe is unbreakable.

Born in Stoke on Trent in 1912 his record is now largely forgotten as the Year Record has fallen out of fashion and is no longer the coveted cycling achievement it used to be.

The distance he travelled is the equivalent of three times around the world in a single year, or riding from John O Groats to Lands End and back every week.

It was all achieved on a heavy steel bike with only four gears and he even had learn how to walk normally again when he finished the challenge.

For those who love the great outdoors and cycling a Canal Boat Holiday is a perfect choice for you.

Canal Boat hire holidays provide you with the chance to get out and about and lead you into the heart of the countryside.

Bikes can be easily secured onto your Canal Boat then just moor up and explore the surrounding countryside.

You will find a trail that is perfect for you a gentle ride along the side of the towpath or an adrenalin fuelled race over tracks and hills.
