13-04-2011 : WILL WARMING SEA TEMPERATURES MEAN FEWER PENGUINS

The number of penguins in western Antarctica has halved in the last 30 years and the experts believe that warmer seas could be to blame.

The young penguins eat krill, small shrimp like animals, but the warmer sea temperatures mean that there is fewer krill to eat.

The krill need ice to survive and some scientists think climate change is causing Antarctic ice to melt faster and for the seas to warm up.

With less Krill to eat the penguins are struggling to survive.

If you love to see the penguins at safari parks and Zoos then a Canal Boat Holiday is a perfect choice of vacation for you.

From our Canal Boat Holiday base at Hliperton on the Kennet And Avon Canal visit Bristol Zoo and meet their penguins up close as you walk through the transparent underwater walkways.

To get up close to the sharks and turtles go to The Sealife Centre near to Gas Street Basin in Birmingham.

This can easily be reached in a few hours from our Canal Boat Holiday resort at Alvechurch.

Drayton Manor is not only brilliant for its theme park but there is also a Zoo there visit both whilst you are on your Canal Boat Holiday.

If you are doing the Grand Ring on your Canal Boat Holiday stop off and visit Woburn Safari Park and Woburn Abbey.

Our resort at Anderton is a perfect place to start your Canal Boat Holiday if you want to visit Chester Zoo or the Blue Planet Aquarium at Ellesmere Port.
