06-03-2012 : CRUISE TO DROITWICH AND VISIT HANBURY HALL

Whilst on a Canal Boat Holiday to Droitwich take a day out and visit the National Trust owned property of Hanbury Hall.

Currently the National Trust are hosting a series of events at Hanbury Hall to celebrate the different places the Vernon family visited.

It begins with Thomas Vernon who was a lawyer in the Courts of Chancery in London.

Visitor Services Manager Alice Eddy said These events mark the start of an exciting year of events and activities to celebrate the different places visited by the Vernon family.

Droitwich became famous as a Spa town but unlike other Spa towns you did not drink the spa water, which is almost saturated brine.

The benefits were derived by swimming and floating in the concentrated salt solution at the town brine bath.

On your Canal Boat Holiday to Droitwich visit the Jinney Ring Craft Centre which is set in landscape gardens.

Browse around the collection of 200 year old barns which have been converted into a number of craft studios.

Well worth a visit is the Avoncroft Museum of Historic Buildings, opened in 1967 this open air museum has historic buildings spanning over 700 years.

Visit the interesting buildings which include a Victorian Mission church, a Windmill and a 1946 Prefab.

Moor up in Vines Park and take the pleasant stroll to the unusual and fascinating town centre of Droitwich.

Due to subsidence caused by the brine extraction the buildings on the High Street are very wonky adding character to the town.

Droitwich shopping is mainly focused in the town centre around the Square which leads to the shopping centre.
