This is a recommended canal boat holidays route.
Cruise down the Grand Union Canal through the famous Foxton Locks (10 locks in a staircase) which take you very steeply uphill, through quiet landscape, through the Watford Locks (4 of these form a staircase as well) down to the where the Grand Union Canal splits to go either west towards Birmingham, or south towards London. Continue on the London stretch to Gayton.
The whole route is very rural, but there are 2 exciting tunnels to got through, and there a few locks to make it interesting, but not enough to be too strenuous.
